Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco - is a Canadian and American singer/songwriter. Her albums span over 20 years. Her music is categorized as folk, alternative and rock but she also draws influences from jazz and hip-hop. The widely regarded feminist icon Grammy award winner Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement, and was among the first artists to create her own label 1990. DiFranco's parents, Elizabeth (Ross), a ex-student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Dante Americo DiFranco met each the other when they were students at the same school. Her father had Italian heritage and her mother was Montreal-born. Ani DiFranco wrote and sang 32 Flavors. This song appeared on her album Not a Pretty Girl which came out in 1995. Another version of the song appears on the movie soundtrack of the 1999 Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologized in 2013 after it was revealed that she was hosting a 3-day workshop in the site of a Louisiana ex-slave plantation. Although she cancelled the workshop, many individuals (including the authors of our article) didn't feel any guilt. DiFranco offered a second apology a few days afterward. Although she's known by the name of Little Peoplesinger, she's worked with many musicians and artists, from Pete Seeger through Chuck D up to Prince. The singer hails from New Orleans. Ani as well as Kristen Ford. The first song she wrote was around the age of 14. The songs she performed at coffee houses and bars in her teens. DiFranco started taking lessons at Buffalo State College at age 16 after graduating from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. The song, a pop rock hit from 1972 (You're a gorgeous girl) was composed by American band Looking Glass for their debut album Looking Glass.
